Get to know some of our current interns and find out why they’re pursuing a career in technology, their experiences at WiseTech so far, and advice for their younger selves.
What are you studying and when are you due to graduate?
I’m studying a Bachelor of Computer Science (Co-op) at UNSW and will graduate at the end of 2022.
Why did you decide to study your degree?
I’ve always enjoyed science and problem solving, but I never knew how to code before university – I decided to take the leap to try something new, and I’ve been loving it!
Have you always known you wanted to work in the tech industry?
Coming out of high school, I was completely clueless about where I wanted to work. But I’ve always been interested in computers, and since studying computer science, printing my first “Hello World” and being exposed to the world of tech, I’ve realized this is the path I want to take.
Which team are you currently in at WiseTech and what sort of work are you doing?
I’m currently in the PAVE team, where I’m doing software development (with an amazing team)!
What was it about WiseTech that appealed to you?
The people and culture, how much there is to learn, and the opportunities to work with such knowledgeable yet supportive teams.
What are you hoping to get out of your time at WiseTech?
I’m here to learn something new! And to gain some insight from more experienced and knowledgeable people in the industry, and hopefully be able to help out a bit too.
What (or who) inspires or motivates you?
My family.
If you could choose anyone to mentor you, who would it be and why?
Marie Curie – I’d love to know how she approached science, discovery and life as a whole a hundred years ago.
What advice would you give your younger self?
“When it rains, it pours,” – sometimes we can feel overwhelmed, with both the good and the bad, but it’s all part of the journey!
